The BHS Writing Project website is a gathering point for all stakeholders to foster a common understanding of the teaching of writing. The website provides teachers with immediate access to the researched-based resources that their content colleagues are using with their students. Teachers across content will be able to peek into the classrooms of other content area teachers in order to better serve the needs of their students. Additionally, it will serve as an archive so that teachers collaborate and learn from their practice throughout the year by reflecting, identifying areas of need, and deciding on next steps. A special thanks is given to Ms. Tanya Avelleyra who began leading this project in 2013, while still in the classroom. Ms. Avelleyra served as BHS CCSS Instructional Coach for two years during at which time she facilitated trainings to all of our staff members on the Writing Framework and Writing Across Curriculum, emphasizing teaching writing as a process and not just assigning it. Departmental templates for content writing can be found under the tab Writing Framework. The project's name was changed to BHS Academic Literacy Project in 2019 to include strategies that will improve students' reading, listening and speaking skills as well as writing.
